Starved at the foot of the volcano, misted by the Aegean Sea, and growing into a basket-like cylinder to defend itself against the intense Greek sun and the harsh Cycladic winds, the Santorini grape is sustainably cultivated in arid volcanic-ash-rich soil. We source the marcs, the by-products of the cultivation, from the Union of Santorini Cooperatives/Santowine. It is the first time that the great volume of vinification by-products, instead of being discarded, is used to produce a cosmetic extract.

We extract the marcs after they have been dried under the bright Greek sun for 48 hours. We follow a 100% zero-waste process, using natural solvents only. Solid residue is composted to end up back into the soil as organic fertilizer.
